For features in the city of Santa Barbara and Santa Barbara County, California, the sources for those which have been imported into OSM (or converted from a non-OSM format) are listed below:

Right to Use

Data Quality

  • Openaddresses.io: mostly complete with individual units, accurate and within plot lines, no businesses or names included.
  • Microsoft US Building Footprints: mostly complete but not highly accurate, no building parts / heights either. The rectification algorithm often fails on complex shaped mansions.

Interested Parties

  • Participation follows initiative, especially where areas are micromapped (i.e. land cover added).

To Do

  • Continued import of buildings and addresses from the City to the rest of the County

Status

  • Most buildings from Goleta to Montecito and addresses from Goleta to Ventura have been imported, and duplicates / overlapping ways have been removed (ca. 2017)
  • Many missing sheds and small roofs have been added such as above parking spots or as building parts.
  • Many buildings and addresses in the Goleta area have since been merged (selection of 1 building + 1 address within iD -> right click -> Merge).
  • Many building features have been subdivided into building parts / businesses according to address:unit.
  • For these geometries, a web-search of each address can be performed via ddg.gg where the official domain name is verified.
  • An official website may be documented / added on the basis of current address, and/or name from street-level imagery, among other information.
  • Many building projections have since been redrawn by hand using edge-detection / gradient-descent from Digital Globe Premium imagery.
  • Many new buildings have since been erected and are yet to be imaged. Significant housing and development continues for the entire SB area.
