OSM has at heart fresh, accurate, community gathered information. We feel that the bottleneck is how much information can one collect and add to OSM.

The automatic road sign detection project represents our efforts addressing this issue: leveraging our own navigation application, we have integrated a component that automatically detects road signs encountered during navigation. This data is collected, processed, stored and exposed to the OSM community via a JOSM plugin.

Project components:

  • road sign detection library integrated in our GPS Navigation app
  • data storage & processing backend
  • API exposing the data
  • JOSM plugin consuming the data

The focus of the presentation will be the JOSM plugin and how it can be used to improve OSM.
