Good Project

Yes, Yes, Yes. The first mentioned expected outcome is to build a community of mappers. And the proposal seems to be feasible and economical. We have OSM community involvement, some brief CVs of the leadership team, a clear process and a reasonable budget. Supported.

But, the gift of free personal laptops, a personal solar panel and personal stipends to the data capturer needs to be reviewed. OSM has a policy that it does not pay for data to be captured. For the computers and solar panel I believe OSM should follow a global policy that durable assets can be donated to associations, but not to individuals. Further, they should be available to all members once the grant has concluded. After three years they can be written off and given or sold to an individual. In general, the bulk of funds should be to build the OSM community or OSM community resources.

There are a number of micro-grant requests asking for Zoom accounts. There is a lot of duplication. For OSM activities, I believe the OSMF now rents (or hosts) a BigBlueButton conferencing server. I ask that that server be made available for recipients of the micro-grant for the grant period (Terms and conditions etc..)

Generally agree, but laptop can be used for far more than 3 years. Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 14:22, 18 May 2020 (UTC)

Thank you for your feedback! The laptops and solar panel are not as such personal. These resources will be available for use by all our community members. They are included as part of the proposal because we consider it essential for our mapping community to have physical resources. This is crucial in scenarios where for example we may have new members that not have have access to computers. In such cases, they can use these resources. --Kica Solomon (talk) 15:46, 19 May 2020 (UTC)

Future

What will happen with laptop and other equipment after the proposal terminates? Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 12:29, 18 May 2020 (UTC)

Thank you for your feedback! An inventory of physical resources such as laptops, solar panel etc. will be kept even after the project ends. These will be available for all our community members to share and use to contribute to OSM. --Kica Solomon (talk) 15:46, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
