Northern Ireland

Shouldn’t Northern Ireland be in the table? The NaPTAN web page talks about being for the whole of the UK. --Wynndale 15:23, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

I have taken the list of regions that is available from the NaPTAN data source website, I've yet to look into the availability of NI data. --Thomas Wood 02:12, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
  • Northern Ireland are not yet in NaPTAN, but they might be soon - I will add them to the list with a note. PeterIto 10:00, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

Import Question

Forgive the ignorance, how can I request a region be added to the import list? I've checked the site and can't find anything to tell me how to do this. DavidMck 20:55, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

Seconded. The page is headed "A page to request import" but appears to be more of "A list of requested imports" with no clue as to actually go about making a request. I'd like to request import of ATCO code 320 (North Yorkshire); how do I formally request this? Tonywalton 00:32, 3 March 2010 (UTC)
Just edit the Request for Import page and add your request. ie just add your username next to the area you are interested in. Plus add anything relevant to the notes. Thomas Wood should check that page fairly regularly, and do any imports that have been requested. --Vclaw 19:32, 3 March 2010 (UTC)
Urgh. I happen to be an admin on the en Wikipedia, so I'm reasonably familiar with Mediawiki table markup. It's a bit scary for a casual user who just wants to request a NaPTAN import though, isn't it? (And rather prone to ending up with a broken table). Any chance of a simple list of requests at the bottom of the page, which those who can do the "eye of newt" stuff can add to the table? I've requested North Yorkshire (ATCO 320), by the way. David (above), let me know either here or on my talkpage which region you want to request and I'll edit the table if you like. Tonywalton 23:30, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

Requester's responsibilities?

Hi, I was going to add a pile more bus stops in my area (Rosyth, in Fife) when I saw this, and now I'm thinking I should just request an import, since the map is pretty poor round here - but I'm not sure what I'd be expected to do after that. Clean up dupes? Go and survey them? Is there anything keepright-like that will show me if I have non-naptan busstops near naptan ones? How much work am I committing myself to... • I surveyed all of the stops in Hull after they had been imported. To do it well is a lot of work, more than I expected. I checked the position, the shelter, layby or not, raised kerb or not, the code where it was displayed, the street name and the direction from the stop. I sent a copy of my findings to the local council who were interested in the discrepancies. There is code around to draw an overlay for bus stops showing what is still outstanding vs checked including ones with discrepancies. Message me if that would be useful Chillly 16:50, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
Ok, I think I'll hold off on a request then. Fife is 20 times the area of Kingston-upon-Hull, too big to tackle without a car and a lot of free time, despite being quite rural. As I said, the map isn't that great round here so it's not like I lack other things to add to the map. Thanks for your help Bazzargh 00:52, 17 February 2011 (UTC)
Just because you request the import, it doesn't mean you have to check all of the bus stops yourself. Yes, it would be great if you did so, but I think its fine if you just check part of your town or village, and people elsewhere in the area can check their towns etc. Maybe contact other mappers, and ask them to help? I requested the import for the Highland council area (which is 20 times bigger than Fife!), and I'm not going to check all of the bus stops any time soon... The Naptan data is mostly accurate, so still fairly useful even if it hasn't all been checked on the ground. Plus it can help to find missing streets or streetnames etc. --Vclaw 03:02, 17 February 2011 (UTC)
See the page NaPTAN/Surveying and Merging NaPTAN and OSM data for a recommended procedure for checking the imported bus stops. Also see NaPTAN/Novam - its a very useful tool which will show a map of which stops have been checked, or stops without Naptan data, so easy to spot duplicates. Though its not been working very well recently, I think its due to problem with XAPI? --Vclaw 00:07, 17 February 2011 (UTC)
