Talk:Name Suggestion Index

From OpenStreetMap Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

name-suggestion-index uses the brand:wikidata=* tag to obtain a URL to the brand's official logo.

isn't this about iD only? hence should be moved down to the iD section Jnicho02 (talk) 08:59, 5 November 2019 (UTC)

Significance of brand:wikidata=*

Don't have time to edit right now, but perhaps could note the real value in having branded locations explicitly tagged with brand:wikidata=* as it groups all known locations together and facilitates the possibility for automated/semi-automated mass edits as well as the ability to analyse data such as the number of locations a company has (and thus compare that to the number they claim - giving us an estimate of brand mapping completeness). --TheEditor101 (talk) 22:09, 5 November 2019 (UTC)

yes....but....great as the Wikidata tags are, we are not a Wikimedia project and I am wary of becoming reliant of their tags. Not saying 'no' though. Jnicho02 (talk) 08:59, 6 November 2019 (UTC)
brand:wikidata=* is only one of the tags that NSI applies consistently to POIs. Key:brand:wikidata would be a better place to discuss the significance and merits of that key. – Minh Nguyễn 💬 21:04, 22 November 2019 (UTC)
@Minh Nguyen: True, however that tag is the inspiration behind the NSI as it is what provides a stable unique identifier for brands and allows the project to work. --TheEditor101 (talk) 00:40, 20 December 2019 (UTC)

"...The index is a set of JOSM files..."

Is the format particularly from JOSM, or is it a typo for JSON? - Jnicho02 (talk) 08:06, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

This was a typo and has been corrected since, see History --Habi (talk) 12:27, 11 May 2021 (UTC)

How soon will iD receive data updates?

Just out of my curiosity, does iD sync the index list from GitHub daily/weekly/monthly, or use the distributed npm released at npmjs.org? -- CBRS (talk) 15:03, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

I asked the iD Devs (on US OSM Slack) and it is currently bundled into iD releases via npm packages, but going forward it will pull latest datafiles from the NSI repo or CDN. Jnicho02 (talk) 21:37, 12 January 2021 (UTC)
