Search for eg. 52.18,0.20 and other values does not work? --PaulTs 12:28, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

US zip codes also aren't working. Or do I have to add something to the code to make it work? Harald.ithaca 15:17, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

No more update of the index ?

Norwegian post codes

Norwegian post codes is always four digits. A good source for this could be: http://www.erikbolstad.no/nedlasting/postnummer-utf8.txt (and explained here: http://www.erikbolstad.no/geo/noreg/postnummer/) How can we implement this? --Gorm 21:21, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

Can you provide some information on the license requirements of the above? The data could either be imported into OSM (at which point it would be used automatically (this is the preferred method usually) or it could be imported into the search system as an aux. source of data (which is what is currently done with zip codes). BTW, please sign comments. --Twain 21:36, 9 March 2010 (UTC)
Yep. All content on erikbolstad.no is licensed Creative Commons Attribution (as noted on the bottom of the page. The postcode information is from http://posten.no and released for "free use" (See Postadresseboka). The geo location for each post code was a crowd source effort organised by Erik Bolstad. He was editor for http://yr.no until last year. The coordinates has enabled yr.no to show weather forecasts for a post code.
I'm also tinkering on different methods of integrating this information into osm (http://gorm.cc/epab/osm_epab_diff.php) but its nowhere near usable yet. Gorm 21:59, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

OS OpenData UK postcodes

The postcode search could legally be improved to use the CodePoint data (part of the Ordnance Survey OpenData release) to correlate UK postcodes to centroid co-ordinates, for example "NG4 2JY".

The conversion has already been done to a number of database formats, courtesy of HowardvanRooijen.

Delete/Merge with Name finder

Content on this page was originally at "Search" and was supposed to be user docs on how to search using Name finder (back when this was the main OSM geocoder) I think we should merge any useful user docs off this page on to the old Name finder page and then delete this. -- Harry Wood 03:20, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
