Parking_position vs taxilane?

Can someone clarify when to use aeroway=parking_position on a way instead of aeroway=taxilane or aeroway=taxiway? --Jeisenbe (talk) 04:02, 12 September 2019 (UTC)

Heliports

At a heliport for helicopters, the parking position is marked by both a centerline (same as for airplanes) as well as a shoulder line and a "parking circle" representing the largest rotor that can be accommodated. Should we tag the centerline or the parking circle with this tag, or both? [1] – Minh Nguyễn 💬 00:19, 23 October 2019 (UTC)

I believe it would make sense to mark the helicopter parking position centerline, since this would be the same method used for parking positions of fixed wing aircraft. If there is a need to map the "parking circle", a new tag should be used. --Jeisenbe (talk) 07:43, 23 October 2019 (UTC)
I'd go with the centerline as well. Same thinking as marking where the nosewheel of a fixed wing aircraft would go instead of marking the general center of a parking spot.

North, South, and Normal parking positions and their relation to a single gate?

Wellington Airport (WLG/NZWN) has a heap of examples of gates where an aircraft has multiple parking positions depending on things like size and weather. We're a pretty windy city.

"Reserved" parking positions

How would we tag parking positions that are reserved for particular aircraft e.g.https://www.openstreetmap.org/edit#map=19/-27.37331/153.12364, that are marked "Medi-Vac Parking Only"?

Does access=private work for this? --Fizzie41 (talk) 05:47, 26 February 2023 (UTC)

Parking_Position as Area?

Currently the tag aeroway=parking_position "should not be used on areas". However, a parking_position on an apron is not just defined by its position of the aircrafts nose-wheel or the (taxi)way leading to that position. A parking_position is also defined by a dedicated area with special restrictions related to them. E.g. some kinds of Equipment on the apron is not allowed to pass those areas. The only thing that comes close is aeroway=apron. But due to ist definition "Apron is the larger area that holds all the parking_positions" it seems that is an aggregation of multiple parking_positions. What ist missing for me is the 1:1 relation between one parking_position and its corresponding area. Any thoughts? 31 Oct 2023 (UTC)

I would say it should / could be both? Apron for the whole area, enclosing a parking_position area, which then has individual PP nodes for the various spots, the same as we map defined parking spaces in car parks. --Fizzie41 (talk) 23:02, 31 October 2023 (UTC)
Hi Fizzie41, thank you for your feedback. What du you suggest? Should I start an official proposal and ask for an extended usage of aeroway=parking_position so that it also can be used as area as well?

I don't think it would need a full proposal, but I'd suggest raising it on the Forum, see what other people think about the concept of using it for both ways & nodes, & if one is needed? --Fizzie41 (talk) 21:39, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
