The need to develop a new tag

We[We've had discussions on OSM official forums and in unofficial channel, the Telegram community.] decided to use the 'surface=mud' tag for wetted rice paddies, so as not to conflict with OSM's previous tag. However, in some parts of the world(in East and Southeast Asia?), treating a rice paddy like any other farmfield(landuse=farmland) is a bit like treating 'spaghetti' like any other 'noodle' for Italians, or treating a whale as a fish. Therefore, it might be worth discussing rice paddies and developing a new tag for them. --깨몽/dreamy (talk) 01:58, 14 August 2023 (UTC)

farmland=paddy (44 instances) is possible. This may be the meaning of the 1k farmland=wetland . 20 farmland=flooded_crops are better off as irrigated=flooded as I suggest.

I think you've come up with some pretty cool tags.
I'll write my thoughts on this in the forums to give you a chance to discuss it more broadly. --깨몽/dreamy (talk) 07:58, 14 August 2023 (UTC)

Rice types

@Adreamy: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=Tag:crop=rice&type=revision&diff=2585508&oldid=2583614 taxon=* eg taxon:subspecies=* (N=2) should be used for Japonica and Indica. Javanica may be taxon:group=* . taxon:cultivar=* (N=27k imported) / cultivar=* (N=591) or taxon:variety=* (N=3) / variety=* (N=133) can be used for the exact breed. ——
