About OSM Ethiopia

OSM Ethiopia is a community-based organization focused on collecting and sharing geospatial data , creating cutting-edge technologies that leverage the power of geospatial data in Ethiopia. Our mission is to promote open mapping, open source practices and support sustainable and inclusive development in Ethiopia. To achieve this goal, we use open standards, open-source technologies, and advanced AI models to enhance the accuracy of our data.

We are part of the global OpenStreetMap project, which creates and distributes free geographic data for the world. We believe that free and open geospatial data can benefit a wide range of stakeholders, such as government agencies, NGOs, businesses, researchers, and citizens.

How to Contribute

We invite you to join us and contribute to the OSM project in Ethiopia. You can contribute by:

• Mapping features on the ground using various tools and sources, such as GPS devices, satellite imagery, field papers, etc.
• Editing existing data on the OpenStreetMap database using online or offline editors, such as iD, JOSM, Vespucci, etc.
• Validating and improving the quality of the data using quality assurance tools, such as Osmose, Keep Right, OSM Inspector, etc.
• Participating in mapping projects and campaigns organized by OSM Ethiopia or other partners, such as Missing Maps, HOTOSM, MapSwipe, etc.
• Developing software and applications that use or enhance OSM data, such as routing engines, geocoders, map styles, etc.
• Translating OSM data or documentation to other languages, especially local languages spoken in Ethiopia.
• Promoting OSM in Ethiopia through social media, blogs, events, workshops, etc.
• Donating or buying merchandise to support the OSM project financially.
