YouthMappersGEORIAZ-UFRA is an undergraduate chapter at the Universidade Federal Rural da Amazônia (UFRA) in Brazil amongst over 300 chapters in the YouthMappers community.
History
The chapter started in March 2021 with a student and a professor of the Environmental Engineering and Renewable Energy undergraduate course in the Cyberspatial institute, Federal Rural Amazon University (UFRA), Belém, Pará, Brazil. They were enthusiastic about the mission of YouthMappers community and decided to join by volunteering and contributing to collaboration mapping using OpenStreetMap. Currently, the chapter includes students interested in Open Data, Collaborative Mapping, Cartography, Remote Sensing, and GIS to contribute to OSM and YouthMappers.
Our Goal
▪︎ Our goal as a chapter is to highlight the importance of mapping tools at all educational levels.
▪︎ Improve mapping skills and the use of open source data to develop innovative solutions that contribute mainly to disaster humanitarian problems.
▪︎ Collaborate and connect with other YouthMappers chapters across the globe.
Our Mission
We believe that maps are a powerful tool to make a difference in the world. Therefore we organize, collaborate, and implement mapping activities, especially in areas susceptible to natural or technological disasters. We also create geospatial data and information that is made publicly available through open platforms to contribute to risk preparedness and response.
