Source, license

Hello! Are you author of images https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/File:1-G0100010.jpg and other similar photos you have uploaded ( https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Special:ListFiles/AndreasTUHU ) ?

Or is it copied from some other place (which one?)?

Would you agree to open licensing of this image, allowing its use by anyone (similarly to your OSM edits)?

Would you be OK with https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Template:CC0 (it allows use without attribution or any other requirement) ?

Or do you prefer to require attribution and some other things using https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Template:CC-BY-SA-4.0 ?

--AndreasTUHU (talk) 08:10, 8 February 2022 (UTC) Hello! No, the author is https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/User:Szem. I had only help him editing the hungarian cycleway page.

What is the license of https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/File:3-G0146633.jpg ? Would you agree to license it under https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Template:CC0 or https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Template:CC-BY-SA-4.0 or some other open license? Without doing this such uploads are not really useful. Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 18:32, 11 March 2021 (UTC)

--AndreasTUHU (talk) 21:54, 14 March 2021 (UTC) Hello! These photos made by Szem: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/User:Szem He asked help for creating a wiki page about hungarian cycleway examples: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Ker%C3%A9kp%C3%A1r%C3%BAt_p%C3%A9ld%C3%A1k

I don't know how can I add correct license info to these pictures.

https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=File:3-G0146633.jpg&diff=2127679&oldid=1986778 is perfectly fine, thanks! (just checking - author of photos agreed to such licence or allowed you to select license, right?) Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 20:28, 18 March 2021 (UTC)

--AndreasTUHU (talk) 06:57, 19 March 2021 (UTC) Yes, he agreed with the choice. We discussed it on the hungarian OSM list: https://groups.google.com/g/openstreetmap-hungary/c/_-7kPMFN_oQ By the way, he said that he can't upload pictures, maybe there is a problem with his OSM Wiki account.

To upload files you need to make some number of edits (around ten from what I remember) and have not very recent account. This permission can be also granted manually by admins - asking on https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Wiki&action=edit&section=new for that would be a good idea Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 09:18, 19 March 2021 (UTC)

Missing file information

Hello! And thanks for your upload - but some extra info is necessary.

Sorry for bothering you about this, but it is important to know source of the uploaded files.

Are you the author of image File:Clipboard.png ?

Or is it copied from some other place (which one?)?

Please, add this info to the file page - something like "I took this photo" or "downloaded from -website link-" or "I took this screeshot of program XYZ".

Doing this would be already very useful.

Licensing - photos

In case that you are the author of the image: Would you agree to open licensing of this image, allowing its use by anyone (similarly to your OSM edits)?

In case where it is a photo you (except relatively rare cases) author can make it available under a specific free license.

Would you be OK with CC0 (it allows use without attribution or any other requirement)?

Or do you prefer to require attribution and some other things using CC-BY-SA-4.0?

If you are the author: Please add {{CC0-self}} to the file page to publish the image under CC0 license.

You can also use {{CC-BY-SA-4.0-self}} to publish under CC-BY-SA-4.0 license.

Once you add missing data - please remove {{Unknown|subcategory=uploader notified February 2022}} from the file page.

Licensing - other images

If it is not a photo situation gets a bit more complicated.

See Drafts/Media file license chart that may help.

note: if you took screenshot of program made by someone else, screenshot of OSM editor with aerial imagery: then licensing of that elements also matter and you are not a sole author.

note: If you downloaded image made by someone else then you are NOT the author.

Note that in cases where photo is a screenshot of some software interface: usually it is needed to handle also copyright of software itself.

Note that in cases where aerial imagery is present: also licensing of an aerial imagery matter.

Help

Feel free to ask for help if you need it - you can do it for example by asking on Talk:Wiki: new topic.

Please ask there if you are not sure what is the proper next step. Especially when you are uploading files that are not your own work or are derivative work (screenshots, composition of images, using aerial imagery etc).

If you are interested in wider discussion about handling licencing at OSM Wiki, see this thread.

Doing this would be already very useful.

(sorry if I missed something that already states license and source: I am looking through over 20 000 files and fixing obvious cases on my own, in other I ask people who upladed files, but it is possible that I missed something - in such case also please answer)

Images by Szem

Is it OK to have it like that https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/File:1-G0368103.jpg ?

I am asking about attribution line - is "Attribution: Szem" good enough in template itself or should it also include some extra things like link to their profile etc (it depends on preferences of the author) Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 15:04, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

Or do you want it to be like https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/File:2-G0141660.jpg#Licensing - with " Szem ( https://www.openstreetmap.org/user/Szem ) "  ? 04:02, 26 May 2022 (UTC)
