Goals

• Survey all significant ski tracks in Sweden, both downhill and cross-country
• Recommend a set of tagging conventions to improve consistency
• Identify people who have an ability to check particular public transport lines for accuracy

Tagging Convention

Tag the physical path using a way, for example as follows:

highway=path
ski=yes
leisure=track
sport=skiing
description:sv=Skidspår
piste:type=nordic
piste:grooming=classic

You can name the path using normal tags:

name=Vit/grön 2.2km
distance=2.2km

For cross-country tracks, it is very common that several routes shared the same physical ways in some parts. Therefor it is often useful to use a route relation with "type=ski" instead of using the normal name tagging on the physical routes. Create a ski route like this:

type=route
route=ski
leisure=track
sport=skiing
distance=2.2km
name=Grön
colour=#00FF00
piste:type=nordic
piste:grooming=classic

And apply the relation to all ways of the path.

We strive to use globally recognized conventions. We repeat the conventions here to avoid that every interested mapper needs to have to read up all the documentation on this, to be able to get started faster.
