EV6
EuroVelo 6 is called the Rivers Route. It connects Nantes, France, in the river delta of the Loire (Atlantic Ocean) with Constanţa, Romania, where the Danube–Black Sea Canal reaches the Black Sea. In OSM, it is represented by the Super-Relation
2938 (XML, check, manage, JOSM, history, view, gpx ) that contains the single parts of the national and regional networks that form the EV6 route. The total length of the route is 3653 km (about 2350 km air-way distance).

Major cities include:
- Nantes (meeting EV1)
- Tours
- Orléans (sharing ways with EV3 from Tours to Orléans)
- Nevers
- Digoin
- Chalon-sur-Saône
- Dole
- Besançon
- Montbéliard
EV6 starts about 50 km off the Atlantic ocean in the river delta of the Loire. It follows the Loire to Digoin. From Digoin to Chalon-sur-Saône, it runs next to the Canal du Centre.
From Chalon-sur-Saône to Mulhouse, it runs along the river Doubs (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Datei:MapDoubs-2.jpg map]). The Canal du Rhône au Rhin (which partly is the Doubs) connects Montbéliard with the Rhine (about 10 km north of Basel)

Switzerland
The EV6 runs along the Rhine from Basel (Switzerland) to Radolfzell (Germany). As the Rhine partially is the border between Germany and Switzerland, EV6 crosses Swiss areas several times. Popular towns along the route include:
- Basel (crosses EV5)
- Schaffhausen
- Stein am Rhein
Germany
The whole German part of the EV6 is identical with the national route D6 („Donauroute“,
102227 (XML, check, manage, JOSM, history, view, gpx )).
The EV6 runs along the Swiss–German border along the Rhine until reaching the Lake of Constance. This part is identical to the German national route D8 („Rhein-Route“,
6145 (XML, check, manage, JOSM, history, view, gpx )) and the various other international and regional routes that run along the Rhine. It reaches the Lake of Constance in Stein am Rhein and runs along its west side until Stahringen near Radolfzell.
From Stahringen to Tuttlingen it crosses the Swabian Alb (probably using the regional route Hohenzollernweg (
9420 (XML, check, manage, JOSM, history, view, gpx )) on some parts).
In Tuttlingen, EV6 reaches the Danube and runs along the Danube Cyclepath („Donauradweg“, see Wikipedia) from now on.
Towns along the path are:
- Waldshut-Tiengen
- Radolfzell
- Tuttlingen
- Sigmaringen
- Ehingen
- Ulm
- Günzburg
- Dillingen
- Donauwörth
- Neuburg
- Ingolstadt
- Neustadt
- Kelheim (where the last hill along the Danube is to be passed)
- Regensburg
- Straubing
- Deggendorf
- Passau
Signposting
The German part of the way is consistently signposted, you can find it without a map. From Basel to Stahringen (Lake of Constance), it is signposted as EV6, German routes D6/D8 and Swiss route 2. From Stahringen to Tuttlingen, there are signs of EV6 and D6 (at least in the area around Stahringen). From Tuttlingen to Passau, you will find different signs of the „Donauradweg“. In the area around Ehingen, there are also signs showing the D6 and EV6.
Austria
Upper Austria
The Upper Austrian part of the Danube Cycle Path is itentical to the regional route R1 (
23400 (XML, check, manage, JOSM, history, view, gpx )). Towns include:
- Linz (meeting EV7 somewhere)
Lower Austria / Vienna
The Lower Austrian part of the Danube Cycle Path is identical to the regional route 6 (
17206 (XML, check, manage, JOSM, history, view, gpx ). Towns include:
- Ybbs
- Melk
- Krems
- Tulln
- Korneuburg
- Klosterneuburg
- Wien (meets EV9)
- Schwechat
Signposting
The Austrian part of the way is signposted as R1 (Upper Austria) and 6 (Lower Austria). In Vienna you may also find EV6 signs.
Slovakia
The Danube forms the Slovakian–Hungarian border. EV6 runs along the Danube for a short while but crosses the Danube to continue in Hungary very soon.
Cities:
- Bratislava
Signposting
There are cycle paths of very good quality and width along the Danube in Slovakia. There are also signs marking some kind of Danube bicycle route, but these signposted routes aren’t complete and actually not necessary either, because the paths just run along the river. EV6 is not signposted in Slovakia, so you have no chance to find the place where EV6 crosses the border to Hungary without knowing where it is.
Hungary
215778 (XML, check, manage, JOSM, history, view, gpx )
Hungary is crossed by two EuroVelo routes and their are completely planned and currently being built. Where the official cycle path is not built yet, there is a signposted detour (see below). At least from Slovakia to Györ, EV6 doesn’t run along the river (which is not problem as Hungary is very plain), even though there are actually paths along the river, but those have a very bad gravel surface.
Cities:
- Budapest
Signposting
The EV6 is completely (with only a few sings missing) signposted in Hungary at least from Austria to Györ. At some parts, the planned route isn’t built yet, but then there is a singposted detour, because the main roads that you would have to use instead are often not allowed for cyclists. Unfortunately, those detours are sometimes five times longer that the planned official route would be.
The signs use the official EV6 logo with a green background, a yellow background is used for the temporary detours.
Croatia

The Danube forms the Croatian–Serbian border.

The serbian part of EV6 has been signposted by Ciklonaut with the support of GTZ. I meet the maker of the serbian part of EV6 a few weeks ago in the field and he gave me permission to upload the GPS Tracks available from here (in propriotary format). The tracks are already uploaded to OSM. A GPX version including waypoint files with additional information is available here. Now help for mapping all the data is needed. --FreeMinded 15:22, 20 June 2011 (BST)
In serbia the EV6 consists of 3 types, which is also reflectet in the above mentioned gpx tracks. There is "main route", alternative (asphalt only) and detour (sightseeing trips). I suggest to tag as follows: main route as ics and EV6, alternative routes as ncs and EV6-alt and detours as rcs and EV6-det. Just an idea. Comments welcome! I will look into tagging more closely once a get to it. --FreeMinded 13:52, 22 June 2011 (BST)
Cities:
- Belgrade (meeting EV11)
Bulgaria
The Danube formsthe Bulgarian–Romanian border.
Romania
According to the official map, EV6 doesn’t follow the Danube in the Western half of the country. Other maps ([2]) show it next to the river although.
Constanţa is on the north branch of the Danube–Black_Sea_Canal, the Danube flows into the Black Sea about 90 km north of the town. EV6 follows the Danube to its mouth and then goes southwards along the coast of the Black Sea to Constanţa.
