November 21, 2023 regular meeting of the OpenStreetMap United States Board of Directors

Call to Order

Diane called the meeting to order at 12:00am, Eastern, via video conference.

Present:

  • Maggie Cawley (Executive Director)
  • Diane Fritz (President)
  • Brian Sperlongano (Vice President)
  • Adam Franco (Treasurer)
  • Matthew Whilden (Secretary)

Reports

  • The Executive Director (ED) provided an update to the board on OSM US’s activities over the prior month.
    • Maggie attended FedGeoDay where she participated in a panel and gave the welcome address
    • Maggie attended Foss4G.
    • Maggie attended Alaska GeoSummit, where she gave the keynote address. The event is important because Alaska is a “data poor” area of the United States.
    • Expanding the TeachOSM program requires more tech support and funding for OSM US side. Working toward standing up a sandbox and other tech to support

Old Business

  • Updates to Slack branding are still in the works to be rolled out
  • The board discussed a staff review of Slack usage to ensure that usage was consistent with a community organization, for example for OSM US working groups.

New Business

  • Mapping USA Schedule
    • The board will have a 12 min slot at 5pm on Friday. In addition, Diane will deliver the keynote address
  • Needs for 1% compliance
    • The board was asked to review the Whistleblower policy and Conflict of Interest policy and will take it up at the next meeting.
  • The board discussed the current processes for signing off on volunteer mapping hours and took no action.
