January 26, 2024 regular meeting of the OpenStreetMap United States Board of Directors

Call to Order

Diane called the meeting to order at 12:31pm, Eastern, via video conference.

Present:

  • Maggie Cawley (Executive Director)
  • Diane Fritz (President)
  • Brian Sperlongano (Vice President)
  • Adam Franco (Treasurer)
  • Matthew Whilden (Secretary)
  • Priyanka Miller (at large)

Reports

  • The Executive Director (ED) provided an update to the board on OSM US’s activities over the prior month.
    • Governance committee has new volunteers to run the election
      • The board approved the following statement: “The OSM US board of directors would like to thank the volunteers for their service on this committee”. Clifford Snow, Ian Dees, Jonah Adkins, Yunzhi Lin, and Russell Deffner
    • Trails Working Group
      • Outreach meeting with Zion Forever
      • Parallel pedestrian working group to launch in March
    • Mapping USA by the numbers
      • 33 new members
      • ~$1,000 in swag sales
      • $150 cost
      • There were challenges with getting links out due to spam filtering due to a one-time Neon error, nothing wrong from the OSM US side.
    • Sandbox environment for TeachOSM and other parties
      • Proposals going out. Estimated at 4 months and $17,000 to start development

New Business

  • 2024 budget review and voted to approve the budget
  • Board reviewed 2024 priorities
  • OSM US Board elections are on track
  • Slack
    • Announcement sent out about the decision to head to the free tier.
    • Discussion about the public archive. Board requests a delay in publishing any archive to assess and address privacy concerns.
  • State of the Map US 2024
    • Maggie reminds the board to encourage folks to submit presentations. Submission deadline February 29.
