A call sign is a unique identifier used in wireless communications. In OpenStreetMap you can map call signs that are assigned to radio stations, clubs, repeaters and (aero)nautical beacons. (Call signs are also issued to vehicles, ships, aircraft and licensed radio operators, but of course we can't map those because they are not stationary.)
Examples
- Anthorn Radio Station Anthorn Radio Station has callsign=GQD, the G prefix means England
- Amateur radio club OSB Brugge Amateur radio club OSB Brugge has callsign=ON6BR, the ON prefix means Belgium
- Channel 64 in Cincinnati Channel 64 in Cincinnati has callsign=WSTR-TV; in the U.S., the suffix "TV" distinguishes a full-power television station from a radio or low-power television station by the same callsign
