A name in the Norman language / Jèrriais / Guernésiais.

Note that this tag is useful when an object has names specified in more than one language:

  • If name=* is in Norman then it specifies which language is used in the main name tag
  • If name=* is in a different language then it specifies the name in Norman

Maps in Norman

Note that the tag is mainly used in the Channel Islands and in northern France.

Notes

  • the Norman language does not have a single standard variety with a standardised spelling. The same place can have different names in different language varieties, all of which share this tag. As of 2024, there is no established way of tagging whether a name is in Jèrriais, Guernésiais, Cotentinais.
  • nrf is the ISO 639-3 language code for Jèrriais and Guernésias[1]. The continental varieties of the language such as Cotentinais do not have an ISO language code.
  • as of 2024, a lot of names in (dialects of) the Norman language have been tagged using name:nrm=* despite this being the ISO 639-3 language code for the Narom language [2]
