Using MapPaint Styles in JOSM

Because JOSM uses the same language for rendering styles as OpenRailwayMap's rendering engine Kothic.js, you can have almost the same rendering in JOSM as on the website.

  1. Open JOSM.
  2. Edit => Settings
  3. Select the third menu item on the left (coordinate grid symbol).
  4. Switch onto the tab "MapPaint Styles".
  5. Select the styles on the left, you want to use. There are more styles than used on the website because some are only usable for editing. Afterwards click onto the blue triangle in order to add them.
  6. Click onto OK.

The styles are only usable if used in conjunction with the icon set (otherwise you will see ugly error icons). Download the source code of OpenRailwayMap as ZIP file (about 0.6 MB). Unzip it. You will find the directory styles/icons inside it. Add the location of style/icons as icon directory to JOSM.

More informations about MapPaint Styles are available at JOSM's Wiki.
