  • I approve this proposal. --Mcknut 20:14, 22 December 2006 (UTC). I intend to use it.
  • I disapprove this proposal. User:roundel 02:15, 26 February 2007 (UTC). Cashpoint is a very UK term. surely amenity/atm would better suit?
  • I approve this proposal. Ben. 02:47, 26 February 2007 (UTC). A 'Cashpoint' it a 'point' where you can get 'cash'. I think its very selfexplanitory wich is what should justify a osm tag. Not where the name is or isn't used.
  • I disapprove this proposal. User:Firefishy 08:44, 26 February 2007 (UTC). UK specific term. Use the generic term atm.
  • I disapprove this proposal. First of all, I had no idea what a cashpoint is - the rest of the world uses the word ATM for this thing. Secondly, I do not see any definition of this tag. Was it planned as amenity=cashpoint or what? Please take some more time for preparing this proposal. RalfZ 09:00, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
  • I disapprove this proposal for the same reasons as RalfZ, though for the record I think something like amenity=atm would be acceptable. TomChance 09:11, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
  • I approve the implied concept of the proposal. I'm not sure that atm would be easier as its shorter and in the UK we still mostly know what an ATM is. Cashpoint is more descriptive though. Ksbrowntalk 19:55, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
  • I disapprove of this proposal. We need to use the international recognised term. This isn't a UK specific project! I note there is also a ATM or Cash Point proposal.
  • I approve of this proposal. It's just a tag most endusers (map users, navigation systems, etc) won't see anyway (as the tag name). Since it's just a tag only mappers will use, I see no problem why not to use this tag, even if people in other countries call it ATM or moneymachine or lootbox or whatever. I intend to use it. • I disapprove of this proposal, it should be ATM. Bruce89 17:12, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
  • I disapprove of this proposal, I'm voting for ATM instead sxpert 07:40; 17 March 2007 (UTC)
  • I approve of this proposal as 'amenity=cashpoint'. It's an English description of the feature rather than an initialism. Personally I'd be tempted to simplify it further to just 'cash' and to propose additional descriptive tags, but, from the point of view of getting something in that makes sense and is extendible later, I still approve this now... • I disapprove this. you shoul either use bank or ATM. --spaetz 22:14, 25 March 2007 (BST)
  • I disapprove this proposal. amenity=atm is now part of the standard map feature set. MikeCollinson 08:24, 11 June 2007 (BST)

Discussion

  • Personally I'm not majourly fussed about the outcome, provided its logical, but the basis on some of these votes is illogical. If the reason people are opposed to it is just because it is UKcentric, that should not be the reason to be against it. It should be voted on based on if it is self-descriptive, fitting with other tags, and has a logical key and value. Now if an alien (with the ability to speak english) saw the tag 'ATM' they would not have a clue what that ment. Cash_Machine, or Cashpoint, Money_machine, Bank_Machine, money_dispenser...etc. Any of these are self explanitory. But just to vote against something because its not what you, personally, are familier with is hypacritical. I do agree it shouln't be called cashpoint based on what the English call them, but I agree that it should be called cashpoint based on the tag being of the spec's I listed above. Can people please consider this when voting, cause otherwise it really makes votes worthless and a messier tagging system is all that shall come of it. Ben. 16:46, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
  • I do actually live in the UK. The world outside the UK calls them "ATM"s, only the UK calls them cash points.Secretlondon 02:29, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
  • I am not against the UK, but I still think that ATM is a more commonly used term worldwide than cash point. Therefore I have the opinion that ATM would be much better, even though it is not a descriptive word. My proposal is to open the vote on ATM or Cash Point which proposes to use amenity=atm. RalfZ 14:03, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
  • I live in the UK, and I call them ATMs. Bruce89 17:12, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
  • I don't care! :-) Let's just vote in ATM, which nobody objects to, and run the spellchecker thingy to correct all the old cash points! TomChance 08:57, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
  • The point appears to have been completly missed by some of the above points. (I said 'if', so examples of UK based editors that don't apply to this are not nessesery) It is completly irrelevent what you or I call them. I just call them 'cash machines' wich isn't cashpoint or atm..so I don't really mind wich is used, based on what the name reminds >me< of. What matters is that ...>the tag is self-descriptive<... If 90% of the world called them 'dingle dangle metal boxes' it wouldn't matter; thats not justification as to having the tag made with that name, unless that name is there because it is self descriptive. They should be tagged with something that anyone can understand regardless of what they call them, just provided they speak English (with it being the lauguage OSM uses). A 'cashpoint' is clearly a 'point' at wich you get 'cash'. A 'cash machine' is clearly a 'machine' at wich you get 'cash'. An 'ATM' is clearly a...hmm... The first osm tags where made in this fashion, and it should be continued. Ben. 21:56, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
I live in Italy and we call' em Bancomat (Bank'omat). IMHO cashpoint could be a good tag, but ATM will be good too.
  • I'd just like to point out that the term Cashpoint is a registered trademark (1286879) of Lloyds-TSB in the UK (and probably elsewhere) so we can't use it to describe not Lloyds ATM. ajw
