I think this is a shop or a school, not an amenity. Lulu-Ann

I also think this can be listed as amenity=school. Maybe a type=driving would be more useful.--Nickvet419 Flag of United States 19:08, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

I think we shouldn't mix up "normal" schools with driving schools. I don't know the situation in the USA but in europe most schools are run by public authorities whereas driving schools are always private enterprises. --Telegnom 06:11, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

I second that, here in Brazil driving schools have nothing to do with regular schools. The same apply to, for instance, music schools or language schools. I think that we should let amenity=school for regular schools or reinvent the wheel with something like school=*. --Nighto 23:28, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

I dont feel comfortable with amenity in that context.

  1. If i think of an amenity i think of a bench or a public clock.
  2. amenity is getting an overcrowd key that was used for nearly everything in past

There are more similar institutions for training and education. I think of:

  • sailing academy
  • aviation school (right word?)
  • adult education centre
  • adult evening classes
  • trade school
  • professional school

It would be useful to find some structure in it. I suggest something like education = sailing academy --Jstein 16:29, 22 February 2010 (UTC)

Jstein, I like your comment. I suggest amenity=training combined with training=your_type_of_school. In case when "DOSAAF training centre" trains driving and aviation, the tags would be amenity=training, training=driving;aviation, operator=DOSAAF training centre --Surly 11:47, 27 February 2010 (UTC)

What about office=driving_school? The important things are the teaching area for theory courses, and the fact that you may meet there for practical lessons. However, a driving school is usually also some kind of office. --Bk 17:07, 5 August 2011 (BST)

I've very interessed by this tag. What's the vote ? amenity=school, shop=driving school training=your_type_of_school ??? I'm beginner in OSM, but I suggest training. It's true that this question concern aviation, boat and motors too. Filyg 12:48, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

license classes

Your license_classes tagging should use a ";" (which is a commonly used value separator in OSM tags). --Tordanik 20:34, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

What for an exam centre

At least in Belgium, there are driving schools, and exam centres. Places where you can go for both theoretic and practical tests, after which you get a license.

Those exam centres are semi-private (they used to be public), as opposed to driving schools, which are normally completely private.

Would something like amenity=driving_test_centre work? --Sanderd17 (talk) 10:13, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
