State of the Map 2017/Breakout sessions

From OpenStreetMap Wiki

The State of the Map 2017 program is packed with great talks and workshops. With so much happening in our OpenStreetMap community we just couldn't fit everything in! Breakout sessions are your opportunity to explore outside of the pre-arranged program. We have three types of session:

  1. Extra lightning talks
  2. Bookable spaces
  3. Free and Open space

If you already know what you want to share, then tell the world by adding your ideas to this page. Not sure yet? No worries, all these sessions are only released on the day of the event giving you flexibility for spontaneous thought based on something you hear during the main program.

For lightning talks and Bookable spaces don't forget to confirm your session with a member of the State of the Map team during the event.

Bookable spaces

We will have several Bookable spaces. These sessions may be planned ahead of time or thought up spontaneously. Discussions, mapping, code and documentation sprints, and hacking sessions, whatever you want! The sessions will take place in classrooms adjacent to the main conference hall. We will have a sign up board prominently in the main area to schedule sessions and add ideas.

  • Duration: up to 55 minutes
  • Sign-up: on-site, check with the State of the Map team and the available board

Add your session ideas below to mark your willingness, facilitate the organisation and gather interest from attendees. Don't forget to confirm your session with a member of the State of the Map team during the event.

Academic Research / Gregory Marler(LivingWithDragons)

I'm not in the academia field myself, but it would be interesting to chat with people who are (or are likewise interested).

Is it easy to do research and write papers around the subject of OSM? What is exciting and what research is being done?

Free and Open Space

Finally there will be spaces to meet individuals or small groups informally. You cannot book these sessions so be prepared to adapt your plans to keep a happy balance with anyone else wanting to use the space. Let's make it a hive of activity open to all; just come in and collaborate together on coding, mapping, or documentation sprints. Plan the next big thing.

  • Duration: any
  • Sign-up: not applicable
