The access=no tag indicates that the road is not to be used by the general public, with stronger interdiction than the access=private tag. An example would be access roads into military or government facilities. At the entry point, these roads may have barrier=bollards, a barrier=gate, or another type of barrier.

Routing programs should avoid roads tagged exclusively with access=no.

See access=* to see in detail how access restrictions are defined. E.g. a road tagged access=no and psv=yes generally withdraws any legal right of way but permits public service vehicles. A routing program in psv mode may use this way.
