Seçim bölgesi (electoral district) used for the elections of Grand National Assembly of Turkey (Türkiye Büyük Millet Meclisi) in Turkey. While electoral districts follow the provincial borders for most usecases (thus political boundaries must not be created for those); according to the decision of the Supreme Election Council:[1]

  • if the province will elect 18 or less deputies, shall remain as one district,
  • if the province will elect 19-35 deputies, shall be divided to two districts,
  • and if the province will elect 36 or more deputies, shall be divided to three districts.

Thus, in Bursa and İzmir the electoral district is split into two districts, while in Istanbul and Ankara it's split into three districts.

This is important in the parliamentary elections, as candidate lists are prepared per each district and the vote is only counted within the district, with no nationwide mechanism other than electoral threshold. For presidential elections, while happening at the same time, only matters for the results, as it's also tallied per province, electoral district and sub-province (ilçe) as well.
