Ein Schildvulkan ist eine besondere Form eines Vulkans. Die Bezeichnung kommt von der schildartig aufgewölbten Form dieses Vulkantyps. Die Ursache für die typische Form ist das Ausfließen sehr dünnflüssiger und damit schnell fließender, gasarmer Lava.
