For intermittent waterways use waterway=river/waterway=stream + intermittent=yes. For valleys natural=valley
wadi (وادي) in Arabic means valley (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wadi).
Previously documentation in OSM suggested to use waterway=wadi to map dry riverbeds with intermittent or ephemeral water flows. Given that this conflicts with the meaning of the term in Arabic as well as explanations given in Wikipedia and regional interpretation in various parts of the world is likely to differ it should not be used.
Currently these alternatives exists:
- ephemeral rivers and streams - waterway=river + intermittent=yes or waterway=stream + intermittent=yes
- valley - natural=valley
