Procedure for Membership

The page mentions "Membership of the working group is open to any invited persons". Is there a process to get invited or a criteria for selection? --Planemad/Talk 19:14, 20 March 2017 (UTC)

OTRS Login

OTRS requires login and password, but no information what login and password it needs. There is no option for creating account, nor does it accept any of OSM related passwords (map or wiki). So, how does one log in? Rmikke (talk) 23:14, 17 July 2017 (UTC)

Quote: "you can contact the Data Working Group by sending an e-mail to data@osmfoundation.org. OSM messages to the "OSMF Data Working Group" user will also work, but email's easier for the DWG to deal with and preferred if possible."
The OTRS site itself is effectively restricted because data submitted there must remain private: it includes data about emails sent to them (with the email adress show above) and the exchanges bmay require specific private agreements, this could also include legal data, judiciary decisions and secret agreements coming from private contributors that want to remain publicly anonymous. As well, amny data submitted to them will be about problematic data that violate copyrights or other similar issues, that we cannot and don't want to publish. So this cannot be made public. The Data Working Group however will publish a summary of decisions and will publish the new OTRS state for data that would otherwise seem to violate one of the common rules. The OTRS signature for example is enough to validate data or contents that have been officially approved: we can trust then the indicated licenses.
OTRS membership is not purely voluntary: this is the result of public consultations for the candidates, and approval by the Foundation which could oppose a candidate. This is a highly sensitive group. That's why there's no public form to request on account. They are created by Foundation admins themselves after consulting and after formal contractual agreement signed by the candidate and validation of several procedures (including keeping the secret of communications made privately to the OTRS by anyone in the world).
OTRS members should not be contacted directly and personally. Their list is known, but issues to track are collective and must be tracked. It cannot result of their personal decisions based on untrackable data or private exchanges with them. So in summary: use the email contact, as indicated, or the OSMF Data Working Group" public page if there's no specific problem in your own submission to them. — Verdy_p (talk) 14:33, 18 July 2017 (UTC)

Ignoring often actually due to not receiving notifications

ignored changeset comment + edit made by that user after the comment was made to demonstrate that (s)he ignores communications attempts is much better than "User XYZ ignores me!" without any specific info.

(Only for cases of ignoring involving GitHub: note that due to an undocumented GitHub feature, if A blocks B, B will not be notified of A's actions. So one user appearing to ignore another user is actually often due to not receiving notifications. Jidanni (talk) 01:33, 12 October 2019 (UTC))

People are not obligated to respond to Github notifications. If you want to contact someone about their editing - do this on a changeset comment or maybe in PM via OpenStreetMap website. Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 06:57, 17 October 2019 (UTC)
(Yes, however the DWG is the place to turn to settle conflicts, no matter be they on the actual editing, or the editing tools (GitHub code bases.) Jidanni (talk) 08:55, 18 October 2019 (UTC))

data, “ат”osmfoundation“ԁοт”org

Mails sent to data, “ат”osmfoundation“ԁοт”org sometimes / often disappear into a black hole. (Spam filter?) So alternative contact methods may be better. Jidanni (talk) 16:33, 10 November 2019 (UTC)

Use data, “ат”openstreetmap“ԁοт”org instead; the wiki was updated for the new address. --naoliv (talk) 16:55, 10 November 2019 (UTC)
Wait! I finally did get a response! (From a third address too. OK, that is probably not their submissions address.)
From: Data Working Group <data@otrs.openstreetmap.org>
Subject: Re: [Ticket#20191025...] ...
Date: Sun, 24 Nov 2019 ...
To: jidanni@...
Observations:
  1. Indeed, they received it, and even issued it a ticket number.
  2. However the user is in the dark for the whole month (as seen by the date in the ticket number) that they ever got it.
  3. I have no opinions about how long it took. However I will tell them that they need to tell the user right away "Your item has been received by the Data Working Group. It has been given ticket number #12345..."
Jidanni (talk) 18:24, 24 November 2019 (UTC)
OK, they told me: "We have now configured automatic responses on OTRS and will test drive them for a while."! Jidanni (talk) 21:19, 24 November 2019 (UTC)
Last thing I heard from DWG's Simon Poole on the forum was an unequivocal "don't mail the DWG, use the reporting function". Someone with sufficient rights needs to update this page, this seems to have confused not just myself.

Format for emails

I email the DWG more often than not and I would like to know just how the DWG would like to have its tickets. Maybe we can save the DWG some time by using the same template for our emails to them. An example would be helpful, with suggestions for titles and structure of the content. --501ghost (talk) 18:03, 14 December 2022 (UTC)
