Deprecated feature status

I've added a request for indication of consensus at Talk:Deprecated features for addition of this key-value pair to the list of deprecated features. Thanks for contributing to the discussion there. --Ceyockey 03:42, 8 July 2011 (BST)

Deprecate this tag in flavor of contact:website and source_ref?

Reason: contact=* and source_ref=* is more clear and precise way to link URL with world/POI objects. Xxzme ([[User talk:Xxeaningless link, without clarification. Rather than advocate url=*, we need tzme|talk]]) 06:52, 20 July 2014 (UTC)

Website is only for the official website for an object, and source_ref is only for sources. We still need something for other URLs related to the object. --Tordanik 14:02, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
I understand this, but it will be just "url" right now, i.e. mo refine type of logical link. similar to contact:facebook=* contact:twitter=*. Can you suggest/make proposal common types of links present in url=*? Xxzme (talk) 14:52, 21 July 2014 (UTC)
There's almost everything in url=* from links to the OSM wiki to 3rd party hobbyist railway sites. I'm unlikely to create proposals for these myself because I'm not interested in those topics. My motivation is primarily to keep the website values as clean as possible, and telling people to put the link into the catch-all url key is a lot easier than telling them to not add it at all. I would agree to retire url=* after more specialized keys have been approved, but not before – because who knows how long this will take. --Tordanik 17:05, 22 July 2014 (UTC)
Yes, url=* is indeed good place "just to put link". I see your point and agree about "deprecation after proposal". Xxzme (talk) 08:52, 25 July 2014 (UTC)

Multiple URLs

Is there a way to link multiple URLs? For example, https://kletterspots.de/?z=17&lat=36.14881&lon=-115.428&background=EsriWorldImagery#way_779439453 could link to

etc. I don't know how many would be too many, though... Brightj (talk) 21:10, 27 October 2022 (UTC)

You should not be adding every link possible. Only the most relevant or used one. For these without official websites (perhaps not even the local association or club), you have to pick one. Wikidata might be a better service to collect all these links, allowing the use of wikidata=* on it only. --- Kovposch (talk) 04:55, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
Or maybe there should be tags like
Or maybe just the relevant ID number and it could be rendered as a link?

Similar to the photo link methods shown here: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Photo_linking#Mapping? Brightj (talk) 16:38, 12 November 2022 (UTC)
User:4b3eff, it looks like you've been doing this? https://www.openstreetmap.org/relation/14000108 has
Did you get this scheme from somewhere or you thought of it yourself? Looks good to me. Brightj (talk) 15:46, 16 March 2023 (UTC)
User:Brightj, I didn't come up with it on my own - I saw this talk page while poking around for ways to link external data and decided to just try it out since no one has made a better suggestion. More generally, I am dissatisfied with how existing climbing apps integrate with maps and am trying to understand how to move Proposed_features/OpenBeta_Initiative_workflow forward. --4b3eff (talk) 16:11, 16 March 2023 (UTC)
