Talk:Tag:craft=atelier

Is "Atelier" a common word for this feature?

In American English I've often heard of "art studios" or an "artist's workshop" or a "design studio", but this was the first I've heard of an "atelier". I see the definition on Oxford and Cambridge dictionaries online is consistent with the tag, but I wonder if there is a more common term for this? --Jeisenbe (talk) 12:35, 15 August 2019 (UTC)

Use noun for craftperson, eg artist / fine art painter instead?

Looking at the other values of Key:craft and the main key page, the suggestion is to use a singular now, eg "carpenter", not "carpenters" or "carpenter's" - but an atelier means a workshop and could be used by a fine art painter, sculptor, or other visual artist, or perhaps designer?

There are already craft=sculptor, craft=pottery, craft=printmaker and craft=photographer for several types of visual artists.

The most obvious gap is for fine art painters. Unfortunately craft=painter has been used rather inappropriately for the office of a house painting company (not really a craft). But craft=fine_art_painter could work.

If you want a general tag for any type of artist, how about craft=artist? This would overlap with the 4 visual arts tags above (sculptor, pottery, printmaker and photographer), but it already has been used 50 times per Taginfo. --Jeisenbe (talk) 13:34, 15 August 2019 (UTC)

I support both your comments: neither does this seem to be a common English term, nor is it suitable for the workings of craft=*, which go by the profession/name of the craftsman. As a third point, art and craft are sometimes distinguished, not sure it means we should use different keys, but I wanted to mention it. —Dieterdreist (talk) 15:41, 8 October 2020 (UTC)
