Page image and permanence

After a recent revert, the page again shows an image of a shrub that would not normally be mapped in OSM due to size/permanence. While I appreciate that a focus on the subject and image quality are desirable factors, an important use of the infobox image is that of a mapping aid. --Tordanik 17:42, 11 February 2019 (UTC)

Formal distinction between tree and shrub

The article suggests that the difference between a natural=tree and natural=shrub is primarily based on height, that shrubs are generally shorter than 6 metres (20 ft). Apparently it can be much more nuanced than that. [1] But in case anyone is curious, the United Nations Land Cover Classification System (LCCS) makes reference to a scientific distinction between trees and shrubs. Under section 2.3.3.1, it says that trees differ from shrubs by branching symmetry. (This same standard is being used by Key:leaf_type.) Someone on a survey may find it easier to tag a shrub based on its height, allowing for some exceptions, while someone who has managed to determine the plant's species may find it easier to classify based on that species' branching symmetry. – Minh Nguyễn 💬 21:14, 17 September 2022 (UTC)
