What should be tagged?

Should it be river segments, signposts nodes or ways in the water? RicoZ (talk) 20:05, 17 September 2018 (UTC)

A relation should be made containing the ways with the tag waterway=*, so the river/canal/water, not the signposts. On a lake a way with Tag:waterway=fairway can be made, as a sort of virtual waterway. Note that this tag should only be used for signposted routes, that are visible in real life (on the ground truth).
An example relation is this junction network route. It only contains the ways with waterway=canal. A67-A67 (talk) 22:37, 19 September 2018 (UTC)

National Water Trails

The US' National Park Service has a National Water Trail System ([1]). This wiki page says nothing about national paddling networks or anything of the sort. Is it okay to use network=npn to map these national water trails? Vistasno027 (talk) 05:03, 09 September 2019 (UTC)

This is consistent with the lcn/rcn/ncn/icn and lwn/rwn/nwn/iwn tags, so it'd be okay to map these routes like that. At the moment this page was made, no npn networks existed in OSM. I'll add the tag to the list. A67-A67 (talk) 13:11, 10 September 2019 (UTC)

Rendering

Is there a map where these canoe routes are rendered ? --geozeisig (talk) 07:23, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
