Template for the Aerialway table in the Map Features page. Use the default English text or use the template arguments for your translations


All parameters are optional. By default, text is in English. English writers shall write their comments in the template itself (avoiding double edition). Other languages are translated in template arguments, not in the template itself.

This is used to tag different forms of transportation for people or goods by using aerial wires. For example these may include cable-cars, chair-lifts and drag-lifts. See the page Aerialway for more information on the usage of these tags.

Types of aerialway
aerialway cable_car Way [W] Cablecar or Tramway. Just one or two large cars. The traction cable forms a loop, but the cars do not loop around, they just move up and down on their own side, rolling along static cables over which they are suspended.

gondola Way [W] Gondola lift. Many cars on a looped cable.

chair_lift Way [W] Chairlift. Looped cable with a series of single chairs (typically seating two or four people, but can be more). Exposed to the open air (can have a bubble).
This implies oneway=yes (drawn upward). Any two-way chairlifts should be tagged oneway=no.

mixed_lift Way [W] Mixed lift Also known as a hybrid lift is a new type of ski lift that combines the elements of a chairlift and a gondola lift.

drag_lift Way [W] Drag lift or Surface lift is an overhead tow-line for skiers and riders. A T-bar lift, button lift, or more simple looped rope drag lifts, or loops of wire with handles to grab. See also aerialway=t-bar, aerialway=j-bar, aerialway=platter and aerialway=rope_tow.
