Based in Edinburgh I started by editing Craigmillar. My aim was to create a local community map of local areas that include all of the community/volunteer groups. This map can then be uploaded to wikipedia and printed for the local community. Mapnik or Osmarender doesn't render Community groups automatically so I have created my own osmarender rules file to do this and add in the community group nodes manually. The local maps need to be printed out because there are lots of people that don't use the internet or have not heard of Openstreetmap. I have finished Craigmillar and will continue around the edinburgh area until it is completed.
I contacted the local map library and they have helped me set up some maps overlaying openstreetmap over historical maps you can see them here
I have volunteered in Nicaragua and have done a lot of tracing there, I am sending a GPS to a group there to they can start there own mapping project. Although they don't have many computers or easy internet access once the maps are made there are photocopiers available so that the maps can be easily distributed --Central America 10:54, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
