89.26% is a bit more than 'some'

"Some mappers prefer to simply map a house as building=house".....or "The vast majority of GB mappers prefer to simply map a house as building=house"? I know you don't like it, but it is the predominant tagging scheme for GB dwellings. Maybe it should be shown first in the tagging methods, and presented in a slightly more favourable light? It might be interesting to analyse the age of house tagging to see whether it is a by-product of UK data being older Jnicho02 (talk) 14:14, 19 May 2021 (UTC)

I didn't mean to cast any aspersions! I didn't go with something like "vast majority prefer" because I haven't done an analysis on who maps like this and why, i.e. for all I know it's just one mapper who's mapped tens of thousands of building=house polygons (though I seriously doubt that!). I know there are "some" however because I've seen responses in the GB mailing list. I'll try and re-write that sentence a little though. I can certainly move it to the top of the mapping schemes. I will have a look if there's any language that implies bias - I don't think making it "more favourable" is the right approach though. Agreed on timelines though the GB taginfo site doesn't provide a chronology tab for building=house so I'd have to use some other tool. Any recommendations? Casey boy (talk) 14:52, 19 May 2021 (UTC)

Heh, me too. Your analyses are most interesting. Good job. I've just been trying https://ohsome.org/apps/dashboard/ for the first time. AFAIK there has never been a major import of houses, so it shouldn't be skewed. The graph of building=house over time is sort-of what you'd expect: steady growth over time, curving upwards as we get more active mappers Jnicho02 (talk) 15:09, 19 May 2021 (UTC)

vis a vis 'house' I suspect this is the predominant usage at least in part because it is the tag best supported by editors (at least in the past). So "preference" may be overstating things.
