There is no Yahoo-Satelite imagery available.

Read http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Bing. Fotos are of 2001 (last checked in January 2011) and the zoom levels available are nowhere suitable for mapping. But very pretty pictures anyway. Rather inspiring for dust-worms crawling and mapping at ground-level...

Since the end of 2010 Google satellite photos have seen a major update (timewise; some previous ones were pre 2002 or worse) and major progress in resolution (at least in certain places). Those photos are of course not "available" for mapping purposes. Yet they help the visitors to orient themselves on the ground. Bring a colour print-out when you visit Benin for areas you plan on seeing; print at home before you travel! Visitors who like to map are welcome; every little helps.

Peter.doerrie has created quite a few tracks during four weeks of traveling, covering parts of cotonou, Parakou, Oidah, the Pendjari National Park and some of the main linking roads. These tracks are public and all help would be appreciated.

Cities

Cities in Benin and their status.

• Cotonou - Main Roads have been mapped on the basis of tracks by Peter.doerrie. Additional tracks and the mapping of POI / Streetnames (if available) is neccessary. Webtooslow is working on more tracks during irregular visits to Cotonou. Added the new-new-bridge with its connections. Keeping an eye on the ongoing roadworks.

• Porto-Novo - work begun but extremely limited
• Parakou - Some tracks by Peter.doerrie are available.
• Bohicon - town boundaries and some principal roads and some features
• Abomey - town boundaries and some principal roads and some selected features
• Bassila - Some hobby-level work is in progress, just watchlist and see, by Webtooslow. Your help is appreciated.
