| Description |
English: This 7th-century rock-cut temple is southeast of Gingee, on way towards Villupuram (State highway 4). Located north of the village Thalavanur (Dalavanur, Dhalavanur) that is well connected by a rural road, it is set in rocks surrounded by farms.
The temple is more sophisticated than the nearby Mandagapattu built also in 7th-century. It has more intricately carved facade for entrance, a full standard mandapa with pillars. Several faces have inscriptions. The sanctum has dvarapalas, and inside is a rock-cut Shiva linga. The pillar style is early Pallava. Outside is a marble book-shaped inscribed surface, colonial era, partly damaged from weathering. |
