English: A woman shaving her pubic hair. 12th century relief now in the Museum of Ancient Art in the Castello sforzesco in Milan, Italy. Picture by Giovanni Dall'Orto, january 6 2007. The sculpture is said to represent emperor Frederick I, Holy Roman Emperor's wife in a debasing attitude, but it possibly belongs to the tradition of Celtic "impudic" images used to keep Evil away.

La leggenda vuole che rappresenti con scherno la moglie dell'imperatore Federico Barbarossa (che aveva raso al suolo Milano), ma forse il suo significato è da avvicinare semmai a quello delle donne che mostrano la vulva che appaiono in sculture dell'area celtica con funzione apotropaica (cioè per scacciare il malocchio) |
