A building:floor_area=* tag key is used to define the total floor area (sum of floor areas on the whole building) and serves to analyze space available inside a building. By default, it is in squared meters. This is most of the time different from building area, since it will include the space available on each floor and should substract holes and split-level empty spaces from the total.
