Status: Proposed

The tag place:ph is used to indicate Philippine-specific place types, like district, barangay, sitio, and purok.

Please also consider the talk page about the undiscussed incoherent choice of the lowercase ":ph" suffix. This tag was modestly used (still not a lot of occurences, and not applied everywhere or constisttently) before even creating the draft proposal (see below).

Usage

This tag requires the use of the normal place=* tag. It can be used along with the admin_level=* tag, which indicates the administrative level of the place. A comprehensive table of admin_level values for the Philippines can be seen at Philippines/Mapping conventions/Local government.

Subdivisions (either exclusive or not) are once proposed to be tagged as places with the place=neighbourhood tag, along with a boundary with the admin_level=11 tag. But most are mapped as landuse=residential. Exceptions apply for some subdivisions that are also a barangay itself, like Bel-air and Dasmarinas Village in Makati, UP Village in Diliman, Quezon City, and others, which are tagged as place=village instead.

Values

Key Value Description
place:ph district A large dvision of a city, encompassing multiple barangays. But, they do not have their own government, and are used for administrative, addressing, and geographical purposes. This place type is used in Manila (e.g. Malate, Ermita, Paco, Santa Ana, Quiapo) Pasay (e.g. San Rafael, Santa Clara, Malibay, Vitalez. The exception is the Reclamation Area, which is only composed of one barangay), Caloocan (e.g. Grace Park, Bagong Silang, ), Quezon City (e.g. Diliman, Cubao, New Manila, Novaliches, Balintawak. But several barangays are not part of any district, like Tandang Sora, Loyola Heights, Tatalon, Payatas, etc.), Iloilo City (e.g. Jaro, Mandurriao, La Paz), and Davao City (e.g. Talomo, Poblacion, Matina, Buhangin).
place:ph poblacion The downtown center of a city or the center of a municipality where the municipal hall is located. Some poblacions are divided into small barangays, usually numbered.

NOTE: This tag must be used only on a poblacion divided to small barangays. Standalone poblacions are mainly a barangay, and should be tagged as place:ph=barangay+place=village (e.g. Poblacion, Makati; Poblacion, Muntinlupa; Poblacion, San Pedro, Laguna) or place:ph=district+place=suburb (e.g. Poblacion, Davao City)

place:ph barangay The smallest government unit in the Philippines. They are the primary division of most cities and municipalities in the Philippines. Barangays may either be named or numbered.
