Rationale

For shops selling musical instruments, there are currently two tags in use: shop=musical_instrument and shop=musical_instruments. The singular (1327) is used nearly 10 times as much as the plural (126). I suggest to confirm the current situation by formally accepting the tag that is most often used in practice (the singular form). The content of this proposal is equal to the current content of the wiki-page. The current tag was also proposed in 2008, but never brought to vote.

Definition

Shop selling musical instruments of any type (for example guitars, pianos, drum). Target audience can be children, hobby-musicians, professionals, or a combination of both. Musical instrument shops might also sell books with lyrics and scores.

Tags to use in combination

As with any shop you would most likely add a name=* tag, and may also add Key:addr addressing tags.

Similar tags

Tag:shop=music - A shop that primarily sells recorded music (vinyl/CDs). Can be called a "record shop"/"record store".

  • I approve this proposal I approve this proposal., but I don't think we even need a vote; this seems to be de-facto approved. As was already mentioned, we need some subtags to (optionally) specify what kind of instruments are sold, e.g. musical_instrument=piano;guitar. --Imagic (talk) 06:51, 8 October 2013 (UTC)

  • I oppose this proposal I oppose this proposal. - I was linked here from https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/tagging/2013-November/015460.html were this vote was described as "I propose to automatically change all objects tagged with shop=musical_instruments into shop=musical_instrument.". Yes, that link was to the wrong proposal. Technically, you voted outside the voting period now :). Math1985 (talk) 20:05, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
