"Dinner is a meal offered in the evening. " - tag definition page should define tag, not words Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 09:35, 27 April 2019 (UTC)

If I understood you right, you propose to leave this away ? Took the lunch=* page as a pattern and left away as much as I could (for a better overview). But I think a short description is useful to avoid people mix up lunch and dinner. How about "A place selling auto parts, auto accessories, motor oil, car chemicals, etc. " in comparison ? Another nice example is amenity=bar. That's a really exhaustive explanation.
Wikipedia  bar mentions by the way "Some types of bars, such as pubs, may also serve food from a restaurant menu." - There's an explanation missing how to map that. A possible solution would be a table of common tags which fit to the "main" tag... Rtfm Rtfm (talk) 14:03, 28 April 2019 (UTC)
"you propose to leave this away". No, I propose to fix this page to define the osm tag, rather than defining word used as a key in the tag Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 17:13, 28 April 2019 (UTC)
It would really help if you wouldn't speak in riddles but just say what you mean or link to a description page. As my crystal ball is out of order I may otherwise not react accordingly.
As already mentioned here : "Is it too complicated to just tell me what you mean or is it a tactic to stay incredibly vague ?
See "it is desirable to have objective criteria for tagging" - the same IMHO applies to the wiki structure and contents." Rtfm Rtfm (talk) 18:13, 28 April 2019 (UTC)
I just noticed that there is a description in infobox that actually describes the tag. I made an edit in https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=Key:dinner&diff=1847171&oldid=1846133 that adds it also to the beginning of the article Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 19:53, 28 April 2019 (UTC)

Why not use the same schema as lunch=*?

Previously I only had a need for dinner=yes/no/...hours... and this precisely matches Taginfo. Do you have any good reason to reinvent the various choices? Do you think we should use the exact same choices as lunch=*? If you need any help in getting to know lunch=* better or even improving it, feel free to ask. -Bkil (talk) 23:50, 15 November 2019 (UTC)

I agree, the values "buffet", "menu" and "a_la_carte" have only been used one time each. Perhaps it is better to make these separate tags, because there are some restaurants which offer a buffet and 'a la carte' at the same time, and many times when a fixed price "menu" is offered, there is also an option to order 'a la carte.' So why not use buffet=yes/no, table_d_horte=yes/no, a_la_carte=yes/no? --Jeisenbe (talk) 12:01, 12 March 2020 (UTC)
