Permission: Python class

Hi, I wanted to ask a permissions' related question, and was instructed to approach the system administrators. However, I couldn't find in the sysadmins' wiki pages any way to email them. Could you send me (openstreetmap.comverse@9ox.net) the URL for sysadmins' email addresses ? Thanks, Ron (AKA ronbarak).

P.S.: my permissions' related question is: I want to add the capability to a site to give a location, and have all points of interest within a defined radius of the location highlighted. I want to create this as a django/python class. I wish to know if this is within openstreetmap license agreement/fair usage practice.

Hi ronbarak. I can't see anything about your question which requires you to contact the system administrators. They're busy guys, so how about I just try to answer your question here. Other good places for asking questions include http://forum.openstreetmap.org and http://help.openstreetmap.org among other community Contact channels.
In general the OpenStreetMap License is an open license and you're absolutely welcome to build things like this with the data. You need to give a small credit to OpenStreetMap on your website as detailed on the copyrights page. If you were planning to build this making API map requests, you'll also need to think about going easy on our servers. Some more detail on this at API usage policy Often working with planet.osm files/extracts will be a better approach.

Permission: Tiles

Hello, I'd like to know if I need any special permission to use http://{s}.tile.openstreetmap.org/{z}/{x}/{y}.png tile. I'll build a web app using leaflet API with that tile. The idea is to show people some markers depending on a radius they choose. I've been reading around and I found that I have to ask for a special permission. I've already added the atributions on the map by the way, is that enought?

Thank you.

No special permission is necessary, however you should be aware that this is a volunteer-run resource. You can donate to OpenStreetMap to help with operating costs and to show your appreciation.
If you are a heavy user of tiles, you should be aware of our Tile usage policy (which says heavy use is not allowed) but it doesn't sound like you are.

Permission: using data

Hi

Apologies in advance, i'm not familiar with this industry and don't know if i'm going down the right path yet.

We have volunteered to build an index that would show a heat map for the incidence of the particular disease by area. It's a Gov led initiative however we are contributing to the cost of the project. The index would be delivered via a mobile app (IOS and Andoid) whereby the user would open the app and it would show the incidence of the disease at their location, or they could find the index score at an alternative location. We will do the data modeling to produce the index, we are looking at ways to present it.I'm guessing that a few thousand will open the app each day.

FYI, we don't need a lot of detail on the map, the map is just the delivery method and the index wont change at a street level. We only need it for one country - Malaysia.

Do i require special permission to use OSM?

Thanks in advance

It is unfortunately late - but, no, special permission is utterly not necessary. See https://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright for details Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 13:31, 30 May 2019 (UTC)

Permission: Tiles no. 2

Hello. I add the web application to exchange contact information at events, which I am developing the function of displaying the location of the event. I plan to use the tiles with tile.openstreetmap.org. I do not violate any terms? Thanks, --Rinat (talk) 12:22, 27 January 2017 (UTC)

you should be aware of our Tile usage policy Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 13:30, 30 May 2019 (UTC)

Tile server access permission

Hi,

I am adding mapping capabilities to our enterprise application which will be using openstreetmap tile server. We have users in different parts of the world. I am excepting the tile server usage to be moderate. Tiles policy page says to contact Administrators first for heavy use. But there is no way to contact Administrators and questions asked in their page is also not answered.

I read the policy, but it is not clear on what is Heavy Use? I would like to know

1. How can I get the permission? I don't want any legal issues later on 2. If no special permission required for moderate usage and for some reason if it has momentarily become heavy use and if it is blocked then I would like to how to unblock.

Could you please answer my questions so that I can proceed with the development? Looking forward to your answer

Thanks Prakash

@Kmprakashbabu: It appears that you should do this by raising your issue on GitHub: https://github.com/openstreetmap/operations/issues (see discussion in a section above) Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 16:30, 2 October 2019 (UTC)
