more specific tagging

This tag should be avoided and replaced by a more specific tagging because man_made=aircraft lacks meaningfulness IMHO. I think we could categorize the winged groundcrafts (decommissioned aircrafts) by their purpose

  1. memorial
  2. exhibition (in the broadest sense, not only museum)
  3. advertising
  4. housing
  5. training facility
  6. leisure
  7. wreck / waste (?)

and then use the respective feature tags.

Proposed tagging:

  1. memorial ― historic=memorial + memorial=aircraft
  2. exhibition ― historic=aircraft with or without tourism=attraction
  3. advertising ― advertising=aircraft , or advertising=sculpture + sculpture=aircraft
  4. housing ― building=aircraft
  5. training facility ― There is no established tagging; maybe man_made=simulator + simulator=aircraft + training=* , e.g. training=firefighting
  6. leisure ― tourism=attraction + attraction=aircraft (e.g. if it is more a play structure than an exhibit)
  7. wreck / waste ― How do we tag a long-abandoned car in the landscape? man_made=wreck + wreck=* ?

I think in many cases historic=aircraft is applicable and we shouldn't be too nitpicking with the term historic.

What do you think about the listing and tagging? Have I overlooked something fundamental? --Chris2map (talk) 18:08, 5 March 2024 (UTC)
