What is the difference from railway=crossing

Why do we need this tag? Do we need an own tag for every transport vehicle on rails, now, instead of simply looking at the crossing way and its memberships? What should be used in cases of multiple vehicle types using the same rails? --Skyper (talk) 12:58, 23 October 2020 (UTC)

Why not? Here in Russia tramways and railroads are very different features. There are differencies in Road rules and other laws for pedestrians for tram crossing and railway crossing. We already have different tags for different transport ways - highways and rail ways, so what - whe should unite them? I do not think so. --literan (talk) 13:49, 24 October 2020 (UTC)

Discussion on railway=tram_level_crossing

All items at Talk:Tag:railway=tram_level_crossing are valid for this tag, too. --Skyper (talk) 12:58, 23 October 2020 (UTC)

Recently changed to "de facto" in https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=Tag:railway%3Dtram_crossing&oldid=2135807, cf Talk:Tag:railway=tram_level_crossing#Status_De_Facto. ---- Kovposch (talk) 14:02, 3 April 2021 (UTC)

proposed revert of iD's automated use of this tag

FYI: https://github.com/openstreetmap/iD/pull/9306 proposes to change iD to not automatically add this tag anymore at crossings of tram lines with paths. Feedback on that would be appreciated. -- Tyr (talk) 17:29, 26 September 2022 (UTC)
