This page contains information relating to mapping activity that is specific to the Falkland Islands.
Progress
Initial work was done by User:Avantman42 using Landsat and Yahoo! Aerial imagery as data sources, with most of the coastline data coming from Prototype Global Shoreline (PGS)
- Edited press release was printed as a letter in Penguin News, 9th November 2007
- GPS waypoints file (Darwin/Goose Green area) received as a result of mention in Penguin News. User:Avantman42 is working on importing this data. This has now all been imported.
- Data received from Falkland Islands Government (Public Works Department) - road network & street-level detail of Stanley. This has now all been imported.
- This is tagged source=Falkland Islands Government (Public Works Department)
Roads
The roads outside Stanley are largely all-weather tracks (unsurfaced crushed stone). They are therefore tagged using:
- highway=unclassified
- surface=compacted
Settlements
According to Wikipedia, Stanley, the capital, had a population of just under 2,000 in 2001. By UK standards, this would be a village, but that seems inappropriate for a capital, so it has been tagged as place=city.
Other settlements are to be tagged as place=village.
