Park and ride facilities are parking lots with public transport connections that allow commuters and other people heading to city centres to leave their vehicles and transfer to a bus, rail system (rapid transit, light rail, or commuter rail), or carpool for the remainder of the journey.
Typically found on the outer edges of large towns and cities and provide a dedicated service to the centre of the town, city or events facility. A car park situated by a train station doesn't constitute as a "park and ride" unless is signed for such purpose.
