FAQ
How are the figures calculated?
Osmosis is used to create an extract of Hampshire from the planet.osm file using the boundary data in OSM at 2010-02-21. This is then run through the osm-length-2 tool to calculate the length of each way.
The following tags are used for classification:
- Footpath: designation=public_footpath
- Bridleway: designation=public_bridleway
- Restricted Byway: designation=restricted_byway
- Byway Open to All Traffic: designation=byway, designation=public_byway, designation=byway_open_to_all_traffic
How accurate is it?
Probably not very, there are quite a few things that could throw the figures. The point is to see if we are in roughly the right ballpark.
Why are the OSM figures so low?
The designation=* tag is quite a recent invention and a large number of existing paths still need updating to include this tag.
