This tag is used for stating whether and possibly to what degree a building (building=*) is known to be able to withstand fires. Usually this will mean whether the materials used are majorly fire resistant (e.g. brick) or not (wood), but many more factors may influcence the fire-resistance rating.

There is no consensus or guideline yet on how this tag should be used and how it maps to fire-resitance ratings defined by local law. These rating are often measured in time duration that the building's structure can withstand fire without damage. More information is found in wikipedia.

The "yes" and "no" values are in use where the status of a given building is fairly clear or where such binary information has been available during an import from external sources.
