This is a label used to determine the type of territorial entity within Colombia. This tag is mainly used together with admin_level=* with value 6 or 7.

The types of territorial entity are:

  • Cabecera Municipal.
    • Municipal head.
  • Corregimiento Departamental.
    • Departmental Correction.
  • Área no municipalizada.
    • Non-municipalized area.
  • Vereda.
    • Hamlet.
  • Capital departamento;Cabecera Municipal.
    • Deparment capital; Municipal Headquarters.
  • Capital departamento;Distrito Especial Ecoturístico, Histórico y Universitario.
    • Deparment capital;Special Ecotourism, Historical and University District.
  • Capital departamento;Distrito Histórico y Cultural.
    • Deparment capital;Historic and Cultural District.
  • Capital departamento;Distrito Especial, Industrial y Portuario.
    • Deparment capital;Special, Industrial and Port District.
  • Capital departamento
    • Deparment capital
  • Área en litigio.
    • Disputed area.

It is used to delimit the area that covers the territorial entity. When the areas are very large, they can be used in multipolygon relationships. It is not used on nodes.
