I found this tag on the list of rejected features. As I think this tag does make sense, I put it back on "proposed features" list. As I'm new to OSM and didn't find another way to propose it again, I hope this is ok.

Proposed new tag: shop=fairtrade

Rationale

"Fair trade shops" are a special kind of shops. They are not just a sub-group of convenience stores or organic food stores. What makes them special is that they sell goods (food and non-food) from cooperatives in poor countries. The price usually includes support for education in the producing countries. The products are made without child labour and the workers get a fair wage. More information about the principles of fair trade you find in here in German and here in English.

Withdrawal

As the key fair_trade=* was accepted in 2012 I withdraw this proposal. I recommend using the tag shop=yes or shop=charity (if the shop is run by volunteers) in combination with fair_trade=yes or fair_trade=only. Alas, there will be no fair-trade-icon in the map. --Tilsti (talk) 13:14, 27 July 2013 (UTC)
