Proposed features/Utility Schema
|Status:||Draft (under way)|
|Definition:||To provide a cohesive schema for tagging surface features of utility infrastructure.|
This proposal will endeavour to create a unified tagging schema for public utility infrastructure which is of interest to some user groups. A particular case is surface infrastructure that impacts upon the safety of cyclists using identified cycling routes e.g. poorly designed stormwater gullies which do not allow safe passage of bicycles.
A standardised approach to tagging those elements of civic infrastructure which pose a hazard to some users would allow accessibility routing projects and cycling routing projects to weight for fixed en-route hazards or inconveniences.
|Gully||man_made:stormwater=*||gully||An inlet structure to allow surface water to drain into a subsurface stormwater drainage network.|||
|Stormwater Manhole||man_made:stormwater=*||manhole||An access structure for maintenance workers to an underground stormwater drainage network. Often found in road surfaces with steel lids.|||
|Sewer Manhole||man_made:sewer=*||manhole||An access structure for maintenance workers to an underground sanitary sewer drainage network. Often found in road surfaces with steel lids.|||
|Service Valve||man_made:water=*||service_valve||A small cover allowing access to the spindle of a control valve for the public water supply network.||Non-specific.|
|Pit||man_made:water=*||pit||A small in ground structure that allows for the access to infrastructure such as a pressure reducing valve.|
|Pit||man_made:telecommunications=*||pit||A small in ground structure that allows for the access to infrastructure such as a joint, amplifier or service connection.|
In addition to the structure specific tags above item added to the database for these purposes should be tagged with as many of the following tags as appropriate.
These features should largely go un-rendered except for specialist maps whose cartographic details I will leave to others.
